The Challenge
The Instituto de Políticas y Bienes Públicos (IPP) at CSIC needed a specialized microcredential program to train researchers in advanced Python techniques for handling large-scale scientific datasets. Researchers across social sciences, economics, and public policy were increasingly working with Big Data but lacked the programming skills to process, analyze, and extract insights from massive datasets efficiently. The program had to meet CSIC's academic rigor standards to award 1.5 official credits.
Our Approach
Quorax designed the complete curriculum and developed all course materials for this official CSIC microcredential, structured across 6 modules delivered over one month. Module 1 covers Python fundamentals and working environments — from basic to advanced Python. Module 2 is a cross-cutting learning challenge that serves as the main evaluated assignment. Module 3 focuses on exploratory data analysis for scientific datasets. Module 4 introduces machine learning applied to science. Module 5 addresses Big Data processing and scaling. Module 6 closes with knowledge sharing and satisfaction assessment. The program includes live teaching sessions, voluntary tutoring, Europass credential integration, and practical synthesis activities in every module.

Impact
The microcredential program enabled IPP researchers to autonomously process and analyze large-scale datasets that previously required external technical support. Researchers reported a significant reduction in data processing time for their projects. The program was officially certified by CSIC, awarding 1.5 academic credits to all participants who completed the assessment. The curriculum has been adopted as a reference for future data-focused training programs within CSIC's research network.
